In 1947, Edward C. James and wife, Evelyn, arrived in Wimberley from their home in Houston, and they loved what they saw. Evelyn James would later coin the phrase, “Wimberley-Where heaven and the hills hold hands.” That year the family would purchase what is now The Lodge at Cypress Falls, at the time called Eagle Rock referring to the bluff enclave on the widest part of Cypress Creek.

The highly successful resort hosted many guests and employed many people returning from WWII. The James family spent as much time at Eagle Rock as their busy schedules would allow and today The Lodge at Cypress Falls has new owners but is still family owned and operated, in the spirit of Ed James’ grand vision. Through the restoration process the event center today still holds its original grandeur. Cypress Falls Event Center offers indoor and outdoor facilities accommodating up 250 guests.
